The Ministry
The Oaks of Righteousness
"The Higgs Family"
The Oaks of Righteousness is a Family Ministry
Choir consisting of twenty members. This
includes six sisters, two brothers, spouses and
children.
The name is taken from Isaiah 61:1-3 (NIV) “... and
provide for those who grieve in Zion – to bestow
on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil
of gladness instead of a spirit of despair. They will
be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the
LORD for the display of his splendor.”
God has called us to minister to others by spreading the gospel through music, allowing ourselves to be used as vessels
through which he can reach and bless others according to his will. We were called back to the music ministry in 1997, after a
period of approximately 7 years of not performing. Our mission and commitment is to be available to God to “speak in songs,
and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in our hearts to the Lord,” to hear and follow the direction of the
Holy Spirit as it lead us into all truth.
We have traveled many places to be of service in the work of God. Our work is supported by blessings and love offerings that
we receive as we lend ourselves to be of service to others. We have performed at gatherings such as church services,
concerts, weddings, nursing homes, funerals, Tennessee Valley Fair, Kumba Festival, Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebrations,
fund raisers, revivals, conventions, birthday celebrations, anniversaries, Award Ceremonies, and many others.

DEDICATION TO Evangelist Addie Leona McCarter Higgs
This work that we do is dedicated first, last, and foremost to the three most important entities in our life: GOD, Our Father; JESUS CHRIST, our Lord and Savior; and THE HOLY SPIRIT of God, which leads and guides us continuously. Without the love of God, nothing can go forth with promise; nor would the hearts of others be touched and healed by his spirit. God’s “love” is the best and most wondrous gift we have ever received. Nothing will ever exceed it. His love is life.
Next to the Love of God, our Father, comes the “love” of a Mother. The love our mother had, and now still has, for her children is incomparable on a human level. Her entire life was dedicated to her service to God and to pointing us in that direction. She never gave up on us, even when we went through our periods of “separation from” the work of God. She continued, in a way that always worked, to keep us in remembrance of God’s love and the many gifts He had given to us. Many of the things she spoke to us throughout the years we did not understand at the time, however, she continued to tell us that “in length of days come understanding”. She often spoke many deeply spiritual things to people when counseling them regarding problems of life. They would often fall under the category of “..he that hath an ear, let him hear…”. So I would say to her, “Mommy, they don’t even understand what you’re saying.” She would, in turn, say to me “No they don’t, baby, but I planted a seed. It will grow. And then, one day when something else happens in their life, they will remember what I’ve said. Then they will understand.”

Little did I know, at that time, that those words would apply to me in such a forceful way. Since my mother passed away in 1996, I have
come to understand so many things she used to say to me. I have lived so many things that I thought were so unimportant or overly
exaggerated at the time. Because of the seeds that she planted in us, the fruits have grown to such proportions, that they have totally
changed our perception of life and the way we view our destiny.
So, to that extent, this dedication to our mother barely begins to express our true love and appreciation for all that she did for and with
us, and what she means to us.
“We dedicate this entire album, as well as our Music Ministry to our beloved mother, and grandmother,
Addie McCarter Higgs - who is the total inspiration behind this work - as she continually kept before us
the tremendous blessings we had received form God. "Mommy, you are, and always will be, THE WIND
BENEATH OUR WINGS".
Everlasting Love,
Minister Violet Best
